- An eVisa is granted solely for tourist and business purposes and it is not considered a visa for work. If you are granted an eVisa, you must not take up paid employment during your visit to the Republic of Sierra Leone.
- For the purposes of the eVisa application, an application will not be successful unless the Passport has at least 6 months remaining from the date of entry to the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The Non-Citizens (Registration, Immigration and Expulsion) Act 1965 is the statute enacted by the Parliament of Sierra Leone that creates the entry and visa obligation for non-citizens: section 19(2)(f)(ii) requires a visa in the passport of any non-citizen who is not a privileged African, a Commonwealth citizen or a declared-exempt national. The ECOWAS protocol, the SLID visa-on-arrival page and the eVisa terms implement or modify that statutory obligation by nationality class; none of them creates the underlying requirement that a non-citizen needs permission to enter, which is what makes the Act the controlling instrument.
The eVisa terms name every country except ECOWAS members as a Permitted Country for the eVisa (TC_3_3 / TC_3_3_COUNTRIES) and require the application to be made well in advance of arrival (STEP_5); these African Union issuers are not on the SLID visa-on-arrival list and are not ECOWAS members, so the advance eVisa is their route.
