A person may be granted leave to enter Jersey as a Day Trip Visitor where the decision maker is satisfied that the person: (a) is a French national; and (b) is travelling directly to Jersey from France on a commercial passenger ferry; … (d) is travelling to Jersey on a day trip with return travel to France booked for the same calendar day … V(J)14A.2. A person granted leave to enter as a Day Trip Visitor must leave Jersey on the return journey for which they hold a booking on the same day. … (e) Day Trip Visitor: Until departure on the same calendar day.

The Jersey Immigration Rules are laid down by the Minister for Home Affairs under the Immigration Acts as extended to Jersey by the Immigration (Jersey) Order 1993; they create the obligation to obtain entry clearance (a visa) before arrival for visa nationals and an ETA for ETA nationals. The UK appendices are incorporated by reference and supply the nationality lists; they describe who the Jersey rule reaches, they do not create the Jersey obligation.
V(J)14A.1 limits the Day Trip Visitor route to French nationals on a same-day commercial ferry from France and V(J)17.2(e) caps the stay at departure on the same calendar day, and ETA 1.11 exempts such Day Trip Visitors from the ETA requirement.

An applicant who is lawfully resident in the Republic of Ireland and is travelling to Jersey from elsewhere in the Common Travel Area does not need to obtain an ETA (ETA 1.4).
